We have to admit, we are getting very antsy for the Camaro convertible. With 100,000 units sold, a slew of awards and accolades under its belt, and the competition ramping up the horsepower, the Camaro has already become in some ways “old news”. Of course GM has plenty of tricks up their sleeves beyond the convertible; specifically the Z/28. But we want a droptop, and we want it soon.
Camaro5 has posted some more spy pictures of the Camaro convertible, and these happen to be the first pictures when the top is, indeed, dropped. We think the Camaro looks even better without a roofline.

We definitely think the Camaro takes to a convertible version well, but we do have some reservations about this design. Most egregious is the location of the shark fin antenna and the third brake light. They look more like afterthoughts than an implanted design, and detract from the looks of the rear of the car. And since that is what most of the competition will be looking at when the Camaro leaves them behind, it should be the most beautiful part of the car!
Props to the test driver too, as these pictures were taken in Madison Heights, Michigan. It was undoubtedly cool weather (which likely explains why the windows are up), so dropping the top likely wasn’t comfortable. The photographer managed to catch up with the test driver, who hinted that the Camaro convertible should hit showrooms around April of next year.
