Game on! The muscle car wars we have long been waiting for are finally upon us, with each of the Big Three pitching their best V8 effort in a bid for your hard earned dollars. You know the contenders by now; Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. Likely, you long ago declared your allegiance to one of the Big Three, and most every major automotive news outlet has compared the three cars. Well, the sales numbers are in for the first full month where all three have been simultaneously available for purchase.
Ladies and gentlemen, Round 1 goes to…the Camaro. Or at least according to
Autoblog.
The boys at Autoblog are reporting that nearly 10,000 Camaros were sold in the month of June alone. General Motors moved 9,320 Camaros, and has received over 25,000 orders for the retro muscle car since it hit dealerships. GM has only about a seven-day supply worth of Camaros right now. Compare that to the two+ year supply of the Pontiac G3, which is essentially a rebadged Chevy Aveo. Ford meanwhile moved 7,362 of the refreshed 2010 Mustang, and overall Ford sales are up compared to both Chrysler and General Motors.
…and then there’s the Challenger. Arguably the best looking of the bunch (at least on the outside), Chrysler managed to sell just 1,369 units. One would think that with Chrysler in bankruptcy and the slew of incentives offered at Chrysler dealerships, collectors would be scooping these cars up. Apparently not, but I don’t think GM or Ford is going to complain.
