The saga of the Camaro Z/28 has seemed, at times, to be never-ending. Everyone expected a Z/28 when the 2010 Camaro was announced, and it looked like it was on its way - then General Motors ran into financial troubles. Next came the bailouts, and the government's plan to implement higher fuel economy standards over the next eight years. All of this put a damper on plans for a higher horsepower Camaro.
However, Ed Weilburn, GM’s Vice President of Global Design, has informed
Motor Trend that the Z/28 is a go. We also projected the LSA Camaro production in our

The modified body for the Z/28 has been completed, and GM is in the process of calibrating the supercharged powertrain - yes, supercharged. In all likelihood, the new Z/28 will get the same LSA V8 engine found in the Cadillac CTS-V. This engine itself is derived from the Corvette ZR-1’s LS9 motor, and will make in excess of 500 horsepower. The Z/28 will be getting a special hood - probably the same one seen on Bumblebee in this summer's Transformers movie.

A Z/28 body kit is likely, as are specific wheels, an intercooler, integrated exhaust tips, and taller spoiler. Wider rubber, a choice of transmissions, upgraded clutch, and other Z/28 features are also anticipated. GM may even be considering a higher performance V6 engine in an effort to lure more buyers, who don't want the fuel consuming capacity of the V8 engines. Additionally, Ford is sticking a higher-horsepower V6 into their base model Mustang, so the Camaro has to step up its game in order to stay on top.
