The Corvette C6 Z06 is one the worlds most sought after cars. Packing an LS7 engine that produces 505 hp from the factory is a wonderful thing to get your hands on. Most people would love to have a LS7 power plant in there vehicle. Owner John Horney had different plans for his Z06.

Even though it was a Fresh LS7 motor in the Vette, John pulled the motor for a more powerful race inspired engine to put in its place. A new C5R block was headed the Corvettes way. The C5R engine is a General Motors engine that was used in some of their race cars including the American Le Mans Series and the 12 hrs of Daytona. The engine was built for power and endurance.
When Horney got his hands on the engine, it was rebuilt from the ground up. They decreased the amount of cubic inches the motor would have down to 400ci. This gave to engine a compression ratio of 8.5:1 allowing them to add some boost to the motor. The cylinder heads where machined to allow more air to enter the cylinders with the help of a huge 700 lift camshaft.
A set of 76mm Turbo’s were added. With twin turbos of this size allows the car to spool up fast and still make a huge about of power. The transmission was sent for a new rebuild with hardened gears and syncros. Then it was time for the dyno.
At only 8 psi of boost the car made 835 horsepower and 673 torque on 93 octane fuel. When they turned up the boost to 18 psi the horsepower doubled making 1265 hp and 1103 pounds of torque. This last run was on 104 octane race fuel and baked off the rear tires. They tuner shop said this car is capable of making 1500 wheel horsepower easy. The ultimate sleeper!
