Who reading this didn’t grow up dreaming of being a race car driver? We’re not talking about weekend warriors, but the men and women who make a career out of going fast. Without a driver, a car is just a car. When you add the right racer though, it becomes a thing of beauty and speed, testing the endurance of man and machine alike.
Of course, it isn’t all sunshine and gumdrops.
Automotive News reports that Corvette Racing is shuffling its drivers around, in hopes of better matching up man and machine.

Previously, Oliver Gavin and Oliver Beretta had been paired with the No. 4 Compuware Corvette. Beretta is switching to the No. 3 Corvette, previously piloted by Jan Magnussen and Johnny O’Connell, and Magnussen will move to the No. 4 car. Magnussen had previously been paired with Gavin. The switch comes in hopes of optimizing man and machine partnerships, and all four drivers agreed to the switch.
There is no way of knowing what is going on behind the scenes, though we imagine there is a lot of frustration among the Corvette Racing team. They have yet to take a checkered flag, and they’ve had just five pole positions in seven American Le Mans races, and neither Corvette managed to finish the 24 hours of Le Mans. Maybe a rearranging of drivers is just what they need to get back on track. The next race is on Sunday, Aug. 29, at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario.
