If you’ve ever seen a movie from the 70’s, or set in the 70’s, chances are it featured a drop top Cadillac. Indeed, the convertible Cadillac is an American icon, whether it is a 1975 Fleetwood or the more recent Corvette-based XLR roadster. Yet last year, the XLR went out of production, leaving Cadillac without a convertible for the first time in years.
Worry not though. The good folks over at
Drop Top Customs are bringing a convertible CTS coupe to the 2010 SEMA show, according to
Automobile Magazine.

We’ve written about Drop Top Customs many times before in the past. As you might expect, Drop Top Customs specializes in making custom convertibles out of cars that otherwise lack a retractable roof option. Some of their previous projects have included the Chrysler 300C, the new 2010 Camaro, and a Dodge Challenger drop top that garnered numerous awards when it debuted at SEMA.
Their latest project is a CTS coupe convertible. In the past, they have done a four-door sedan CTS, but now they are tackling something a little more traditional. They haven’t received their CTS coupe yet, but they seem confident the build process won’t take long, and they can offer convertible CTS' to customers this fall. It makes one wonder why GM hasn’t offered would-be buyers a convertible CTS. Cadillac could use a drop top in its lineup right now. We guess it is up to the guys at Drop Top Customs to pick up the slack.
