Electrifying News From Chevy

In a time of rising gas prices, the American car is once again on trail for its role in aiding pollution. But with technology today their could be room for a new American car icon, and relief from high gas prices.



GM’s CEO Rick Wagoner made some major announcements about GM’s solution to $4.00+ per gallon gasoline and slumping sales. He told reporters GM’s board has officially approved funding for the Chevy Volt’s production. He said, “The Chevy Volt is a go.”, and “We intend to show a production version of the Chevy Volt publicly in the very near future, and we remain focused on our target of getting the Volt into Chevrolet showrooms by the end of 2010.” GM has said it wants to build the Volt at their Poletown plant to help keep jobs in the USA. Although the launch is still several years away because developing the battery technology needed to power the vehicle. Reports the The Detroit News.

The Chevrolet Volt is an all electric car that GM hopes to be the start of its economic turnaround and is committed to building the car in its hometown of Detroit. But to do so there are going to need some help. GM met with Detroit City Council members to discuss tax breaks for the company to help build their new car. It is not clear how much the automaker might be seeking in tax incentives.
