Next week marks the official beginning of the American Le Mans Series. If you follow the series at all, you’ll know that last year’s final race at Laguna Seca saw Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen sent into a wall by Flying Lizard’s Joerg Bergmeister on the final lap. That left a sour taste in the mouths of many, especially the people behind Corvette Racing. 2010 is going to be one hell of a year.
Corvette Racing is producing a series of 12 videos following their road to victory, and released the first of these videos (not counting the preview) yesterday.
In the four and a half minute video, Doug Fehan, Program Manager of Corvette racing, discusses the crash, and how they are preparing for the 2010 season. Make no mistake about it; the Corvette is going up against some of the toughest competition in the world. Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and more are all participating in the 2010 ALMS season, which instituted new rules regarding engines for this year as well.
Corvette Racing has taken that challenge though, and channeled it into their new car. It is a leaner, meaner vehicle with a new 5.5 liter V8 derived from mostly production GM parts. They’ve also channeled the frustration from that final race, and they know they have to prove not just to other racers, but to their fans, that Corvette Racing will rise to any challenge. The video is very well produced, and we can’t wait to see how the opening race at the 12 Hours of Sebring goes next week.
