To say that the 2010 Camaro is a marketing and sales success is pretty much the understatement of the year. It has beaten both the Mustang and Challenger in monthly sales for seven straight months. Most of the models ordered have been of the SS persuasion, which makes GM more money than the V6 model. GM even added a second shift to its Oshawa plant to meet ever-increasing demand.
Yesterday, the Oshawa plant built its 100,000th Camaro,
according to Camaro5. This important milestone is just another stepping stone to the success of the leaner, meaner GM.

It took GM less than a year to reach the 100,000 car milestone. Production Camaro models began rolling off the assembly line March 16th, 2009. There were over ten thousand pre-orders for the Camaro even before production began, and the stream of buyers has been so constant that GM needed to add a second shift just to keep up. For a brand new car, these numbers are impressive, and we're sure GM executives (especially Bob Lutz) are wearing big grins.
The 100,000th Camaro ordered was an Inferno Orange Metallic 2SS. As we mentioned earlier, most of the Camaros ordered thus far have been SS models, with many owners opting for extra options that drive the cost (and profit margin) up. We wonder if the lucky owner will receive some sort of special ceremony. They should, whoever they are. 100,000 is a big number, and a big deal.
