We love videogames nearly as much as we love cars. We are especially fond of games that combine our lust for automobiles with the pixilated pleasure and safety of a well-made game. It gives us a chance to crash, rip apart, and race cars on famous tracks the world over for about $60. Games like Gran Turismo, Project Gotham Racing, and Forza Motorsport offer thousands of real-world autos to test and tune, but it is the perennial favorites that still inspire us.
This tribute video to Corvette racers of the past comes to us from Youtube via Bad Boy ‘Vettes.
The video was made by a fan of Bad Boy Vettes by the name of Chris Draper, and the man really did his research. The video starts off with the unbeatable “Purple People Eater Mk III”. This 1959 Corvette was built by the famous Nickey Chevrolet, and driven to victory in the SCCA B/Production class national championship by Jim Jeffords. The video then transitions to the 1967 L-88 Corvette that raced at Le Mans. Powered by a 7.0 liter 427 engine, the Le Mans ‘Vette lasted just half the race, but long enough to make a lasting impression as it stormed down the straight-aways at over 170 mph.
The video then transitions rather quickly to the 1969 BF Goodrich promotional Corvette (complete with the “Lifesaver Radials” sticker) and on to the Corvette Challenge C4 ‘Vette. The Corvette Challenge was a race series devised in 1988 when the SCCA banned showroom stock ‘Vettes from its racing series because they had gone unbeaten for three years - another great tribute car. From there it goes to the C5.R and C6.R that have made Corvette Racing a household name. What a great tribute to a great car and we thought you would enjoy it.
